                              Necessity of suffixes & prefixes

Prefixes and suffixes are necessary because they allow us to expand our vocabulary, change word meanings, and fix grammatical roles in sentences using a single root word.
Why Prefixes are Necessary
Change Meanings: They attach to the front of a base word to reverse or alter its sense (for example, turning happy into unhappy or agree into disagree).
Show Position or Degree: They specify scale, time, or location, such as preview (before) or submarine (under).
Build Vocabulary Fast: Knowing a few common prefixes helps you decode dozens of unfamiliar words.
Why Suffixes are Necessary
Change Word Classes: They attach to the end of a word to shift its part of speech. For example, adding -ness turns the adjective happy into the noun happiness. Adding -ly turns the adjective quick into the adverb quickly. [1, 2, 3]
Signal Grammar Rules: They show verb tense (walked), plural numbers (cats), or superlative degrees (fastest) without changing the core meaning. [1]
