Origin of Name: Derived from the Bengali word naksha, which means artistic pattern.
Cultural History: Rural women have made traditional kanthas for generations using old or new cloth and thread. The art gained widespread popularity after poet Jasimuddin published his famous poem Nakshi Kanthar Math in 1929.
Traditional Regions: Famous across Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rajshahi, Faridpur, Bogra, and Jessore.
Modern Status: Now produced commercially as a valuable handicraft item and sold in expensive handicraft shops in cities.
