The national election is one of the most important events in a democratic country. Bangladesh is a democratic republic, and the power of the country finally belongs to the people. The national election of Bangladesh, to be held on 12th February 2026, is very important for our future, our peace, and our development. Through this election, people will choose their leaders and decide who will run the country for the next five years. Every citizen has a duty to understand the value of this election and take part honestly.

What Is a Vote?

A vote is the legal right of a citizen to choose a leader. When a person gives a vote, he or she is expressing an opinion. A vote is not just a mark on a paper. It is a voice. It is power. One vote may seem small, but together millions of votes decide the future of the nation.

Voting means choosing honesty over corruption, development over destruction, and peace over violence. When we vote wisely, we protect our rights and our country. If we do not vote, or if we vote without thinking, we harm our future.

Why Is the National Election Important?

The national election is important because it decides who will govern Bangladesh. The elected government makes laws, controls the economy, manages education, health, agriculture, and ensures national security. A good government can change the life of ordinary people. A bad government can destroy trust, increase poverty, and create chaos.

Talking with Village People: Real Opinions

To understand the importance of the election, I talked to some people in my village. Their views are simple but very meaningful.

Mojnu Mia, an elderly farmer, said that voting is like choosing the future of his children. He said he wants a leader who thinks about farmers, fair crop prices, and irrigation. He believes leaders should come to villages and listen to poor people.

Shamim, a young man, said that many youths feel disappointed when promises are not kept. He believes that leaders should create jobs and stop corruption. He wants to vote for someone who speaks the truth and works for young people.

Rostom Ali, a small shopkeeper, said that stability is very important. He fears political violence. He wants a leader who can maintain peace and law and order so that small businesses can survive.

Ghufur, a rickshaw puller, said that education and health are basic needs. He wants leaders to build hospitals and schools in rural areas. He said poor people suffer the most when leaders are dishonest.

Alom, a day labourer, said he wants fair wages and respect. He does not want leaders who only think about their own power. He believes leaders should serve the people.

Sadek, a local teacher, said that people must vote with knowledge, not emotion. He believes education is the key to a strong democracy. According to him, voters must judge leaders by their past work, not slogans.

These opinions show that ordinary people understand democracy very well. They may not use difficult words, but their thoughts are wise and honest.

Whom Do We Give a Vote and Why?

We should give our vote to a candidate who is honest, capable, and people-friendly. We must not vote based on fear, money, or false promises. A good leader should have a clean image. He or she should respect the constitution and the law.

We should ask some simple questions before voting:

Has this person worked for the people before?

Does he or she speak the truth?

Does this person respect all religions and communities?

Does the candidate believe in democracy and freedom?

We must not vote for someone only because of party loyalty or personal benefit. Voting is a national responsibility, not a personal favour.

Whom Do We Select as Our Leader?

A leader is not a king. A leader is a servant of the people. We should select a leader who listens, not one who commands. A good leader works for unity, not division. He or she should accept criticism and work for improvement.

A true leader thinks about the whole country, not only his or her supporters. Leadership means sacrifice, patience, and honesty. Power should never be misused. When leaders forget this, democracy becomes weak.

How Can We Make People Aware of the Election?

Public awareness is very important for a successful election. Many people do not vote because they feel hopeless or afraid. We must change this mindset.

First, educated people should talk to others politely. We should explain why voting matters. We should never force anyone.

Second, family discussions are important. Parents should teach children about democracy and civic duty.

Third, social media and local meetings can spread correct information. False news should be avoided.

Fourth, religious leaders, teachers, and community elders can guide people morally. They can remind people that voting is a duty to the nation.

Finally, voters should be encouraged to go to polling centres peacefully and confidently.

The election on 12th February 2026 is a chance to strengthen democracy in Bangladesh. It is a test of our maturity as a nation. The world will observe us. A peaceful, fair election will improve our international image and attract development.
