What is TPACK?

​TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) is a framework that identifies the types of knowledge teachers need to effectively integrate technology into their teaching.

​Rather than looking at technology in isolation, TPACK emphasizes how three core forms of knowledge interact with one another.

​The Three Core Components

• ​Content Knowledge (CK): What you are teaching (e.g., English grammar, literary devices, fractions).
• ​Pedagogical Knowledge (PK): How you teach (e.g., instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment methods).
• ​Technological Knowledge (TK): The tools you use (e.g., computers, interactive whiteboards, educational apps).

​The Overlaps (The "Sweet Spot")

​When these components interact, they create deeper, more specialized teaching knowledge:

1. ​Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK): Knowing the best teaching methods suited for your specific subject matter.
2. ​Technological Content Knowledge (TCK): Knowing how specific technologies can change, enhance, or represent your subject matter.
3. ​Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK): Knowing how to choose and manage digital tools to support specific teaching strategies.

​The true goal of the framework is TPACK—the central intersection where all three elements meet. This is the ability of a teacher to seamlessly design a lesson where the technology perfectly supports the pedagogical strategy to make the specific content easier for students to learn.
