What to Know Before Choosing an Education Consultancy

Many students in Bangladesh ask an education consultancy for help when they plan to study abroad. A good one can save you time and help you avoid mistakes. A poor choice can cost you money and delay your plans. So before you sign up with anyone, here are a few simple things to check.

1. Check that the firm is genuine
A certificate on a wall or website is not proof. Look up the organisation that gave the recognition and see if the firm’s name is on their own website. You can also check the university’s website to see if the consultancy is listed as an authorised agent.

2. Get the fees in writing
Ask what each service costs, when you have to pay, and what happens if your application or visa is not successful. A clear, written answer is a good sign. If a firm will not write it down, be careful.

3. Be careful with “visa guaranteed”
No consultancy can guarantee a visa or a scholarship. The final decision belongs to the university or the visa office. If a firm shares a success rate, ask which years, how many students and which countries it covers.

4. Visit the office if you can
An office in your own city lets you talk to a counsellor face to face and see how your documents are handled. If you live in Sylhet, for example, you can look at what an education consultancy in Sylhet offers locally before you decide.

5. Look for experience with your country
Every country has different rules, documents and timelines. If you are thinking about Malaysia, read about how a Malaysia student visa agency in Bangladesh works, so you know what questions to ask.

6. Ask about visa refusals and support after admission
If you were refused a visa before, ask if the firm will honestly review your case. Also ask what help you will get before you travel and after you arrive.

7. Talk to two or three firms
Ask each one the same questions and compare the answers. For a longer list of things to check, see this guide to an  education consultancy firm in Bangladesh.

Warning signs

  • Promises of a guaranteed visa or scholarship
  • Refusing to put fees or promises in writing
  • Pressure to pay or decide right now
  • Advice to submit false or inflated documents
  • Unclear answers about who will handle your file

Final note: A good consultancy gives clear answers, explains costs honestly and understands your goals. Do not decide because of big promises. Check things yourself and take your time.
