Class 6 English Experience 10 | The Boy Under the Tree | Activity 10.1 | New Book 2023 Bangladesh | Class Six English
Welcome to Class 6 English Experience 10, where we will explore "The Boy Under the Tree" in Activity 10.1 from the New Book 2023 for Bangladesh.
In this experience, we will focus on developing competency in appreciating a democratic atmosphere in communication and participating accordingly. Throughout the 5.5-hour lesson, students will learn to use common verbal and non-verbal expressions, such as linguistic, vocal, and gestures, to express intentions, attitudes, feelings, and conventions promoting and maintaining democratic values and practices in and outside the classroom.
The lesson begins with students sharing their favourite sports that they usually play during the school/tiffin break. They will then reflect on the idea of gender inclusion in choosing sports. This discussion will help them understand the importance of inclusiveness in sports and games.
Next, students will be exposed to a story of a physically-challenged student, followed by a discussion on inclusiveness. They will learn how to empathise and support their peers who are differently-abled. The students will also be encouraged to share their ideas on how they can maintain inclusiveness in some given social situations/instances.
To make the lesson more interactive, students will be divided into groups/pairs for activities 10.1 and 10.2. The teacher will elicit answers from the whole class to ensure active participation. Then, in activities 10.3 and 10.4, students will brainstorm ideas on inclusiveness in sports and games. They will be given sufficient time to think and discuss and will be provided with clues if required.
It is essential to ensure the participation of all students in the discussion, and rubrics will be used to assess student engagement. Each group will be asked to share their findings in the class. The activities are expected to be completed within one and a half hours.
Throughout the lesson, students will learn new vocabularies such as playmates, rush out, well-struck ball, mumble, disheartened, lean, wrap up, resume, recognise, afar, mocked, left out, afford, well off, supportive, and neighbourhood. They will also be exposed to different sports such as volleyball, kabaddi, badminton, swimming, handball, and football.
In conclusion, Class 6 English Unit 10 provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop their competencies in appreciating democratic values and practices. The lesson aims to promote inclusiveness and empathy towards peers who may be differently-abled. By the end of the experience, students will have a better understanding of the importance of inclusiveness and the positive impact it can have on their lives and the world around them.
