Welcome to our latest English learning video on Class 6 English, Experience 10, "The Boy Under the Tree," Activity 10.8.
Today, we will be exploring ways to make our friends smile in different situations. This video is part of the new book for 2023 in Bangladesh.
In this activity, we will be reading four different situations and discussing what we can do to make our friends feel included, welcome, and supported. Let's dive into the situations.
Situation One:
Rida, who used to have great eyesight, now struggles with her vision. She cannot see the board in her classroom or play with her friends. She wishes she could still be a part of everything in school. How can we make Rida feel included?
We can start by making sure that Rida feels included in group activities. We can offer to help her with her studies or to play games that do not rely heavily on eyesight. We can also make sure that we speak to Rida in a clear and audible tone so that she doesn't feel left out of conversations. We can also make sure to include her in all activities and events at school, even if they require special accommodations.
Situation Two:
Marche Chakma has recently transferred to a new school in the city. Although he can speak English and his mother tongue well, he struggles with Bangla and often feels shy in class because of his accent. How can we make Marche feel more welcome?
We can help Marche by offering to sit with him during class or group activities. We can also make sure to speak to him in a way that is clear and easy to understand. If we notice that he is struggling, we can offer to help him with his Bangla. We can also show him around the school and introduce him to our friends, making sure he feels included.
Situation Three:
Kanka's father works as a peon at the same school he attends. His family isn't as well-off as some of the other students in his class. He cannot always afford new clothes or school picnics or the latest gadgets, which makes him feel left out. How can we be supportive of Kanka?
We can start by treating Kanka like any other student, not judging him by his appearance or his family's financial situation. We can make sure to include him in all activities and events, even if they require special accommodations. We can also offer to share our own clothes or gadgets with him, making sure he doesn't feel left out or different from the rest of us.
Situation Four:
Rodoshi is a 6th grader who has recently moved into a predominantly Muslim neighborhood. During Pooja festivals, she misses her old friends. In the place where she used to live before, she had friends from her religion but now she feels alone. She wishes she could celebrate the festivals with everyone. How can we help Rodoshi feel less alone?
We can start by showing Rodoshi that we care about her and her religion. We can learn more about her religion and culture and celebrate her festivals with her. We can invite her to our own celebrations and make sure she feels included and welcomed. We can also make sure to include her in all activities and events, even if they are not related to her religion.
In conclusion, this activity is a reminder to us all to be kind, empathetic, and supportive towards our friends, no matter their background or situation.
