Conditional Sentence (If)

■ First Conditional

Structure: If + subject + V1 + object→ subject + can/should/will/may + V1 + object.

Example: 

If she gets good grades she will go to university. (ভালো নম্বর পেলে সে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে যাবে)

If I stand first, my parents will become happy. (আমি প্রথম হলে আমার বাবা-মা খুশি হবেন)

If you accompany me, I will go to the zoo. (তুমি আমাকে সঙ্গ দিলে আমি চিড়িয়াখানায় যাবো।)

If the teacher speaks very fast, many students will not follow him. (শিক্ষক খুব দ্রুত কথা বললে অনেক শিক্ষার্থী তাকে অনুসরণ করবে না।)

If you are not honest, people will not like you. (আপনি সৎ না হলে মানুষ আপনাকে পছন্দ করবে না।)

If the fog does not disappear, our journey may be delayed. ( কুয়াশা দূর না হলে আমাদের যাত্রা বিলম্বিত হতে পারে।)

If the patient’s condition worsens, the patient may die. (রোগীর অবস্থা খারাপ হলে রোগীর মৃত্যু হতে পারে।)

If you apply properly, you can get a visa. (আপনি যদি সঠিকভাবে আবেদন করেন তবে আপনি ভিসা পেতে পারেন।)

If the weather improves, we may start our journey. (আবহাওয়ার উন্নতি হলে আমরা আমাদের যাত্রা শুরু করতে পারি।)

If he wants to have good health, he must follow the rules of health. (তিনি যদি সুস্বাস্থ্য পেতে চান তবে তাকে অবশ্যই স্বাস্থ্যবিধি মেনে চলতে হবে।)

■ Second Conditional

Structure 1 : If + subject + V2 + object→ subject + could/would/might + V1 + object.

Structure 2 : If + subject + were + complement→ subject + could/would/might + V1 + object. (Unreal past)

Example: 

If I had the time I would learn Italian. (আমার সময় থাকলে আমি ইতালিয়ান শিখতাম।)

If I knew her number, I could ring her. (আমি যদি তার নম্বর জানতাম, আমি তাকে রিং করতে পারতাম।)

If I had a holiday, I would visit London. (আমার ছুটি থাকলে লন্ডনে বেড়াতে যেতাম।)

If I attended your birthday party, I would/could enjoy a lot. (আমি আপনার জন্মদিনের পার্টিতে যোগ দিলে, আমি অনেক উপভোগ করতে পারতাম।)

If you went to school yesterday, you should not miss your lesson. (যদি আপনি গতকাল স্কুলে যান আপনার পড়াটি মিস করা উচিৎ না)

If we were conscious, there would go pollution. (আমরা সচেতন হলে দূষণ যেত।)

If I get Aladdin’s lamp, I would remove poverty from the country. (আমি আলাদিনের প্রদীপ পেলে দেশ থেকে দারিদ্র দূর করতাম।)

If you practised regularly, you could speak English well. (আপনি যদি নিয়মিত অনুশীলন করেন তবে আপনি ভাল ইংরেজি বলতে পারেন।)

If I had another $5000, I could buy a car. (আমার কাছে আরও $5000 থাকলে, আমি একটি গাড়ি কিনতে পারতাম।)

■ Third Conditional

Structure 1: If + subject + had + V3 + object→ subject + could have/should have/would have/might have + V3 + object.

Example: 

If I had seen him I would have given him the message. (আমি যদি তাকে দেখতে পেতাম তবে আমি তাকে বার্তা দিতাম।)

If you have finished the work, I shall have paid you. (যদি আপনি কাজটি শেষ করেন, আমি আপনাকে পরিশোধ করব)

If you had helped me, I would have helped you. (তুমি যদি আমাকে সাহায্য করতে, আমি তোমাকে সাহায্য করতাম।)

If you had written the letter, I shall have posted it. (আপনি যদি চিঠিটি লিখে থাকেন তবে আমি এটি পোস্ট করতাম।)

Structure 2: Had + subject + V3 + object→ subject + could have/should have/would have/might have + V3 + object.

Example: 

Had he invited me I should have joined the party. (তিনি আমাকে আমন্ত্রণ জানালে আমার পার্টিতে যোগ দেওয়া উচিত ছিল।)

Had I not been so tired, I might have realized it easily. (এত ক্লান্ত না হলে হয়তো সহজেই বুঝতে পারতাম।)
